our show opened today in vallauris, france. here i am in front of my installation.
we were so lucky to get a private tour of MADOURA, the studio/factory where picasso produced ceramics here in valauris, france. it was amazing and so informative.
they didn’t allow photos to be taken in his actual studio workspace, but i begged and they let me take some if i promised not to publish them . . . but if you visit me at my studio, i can show them to you in person ! his studio was so inspiring to me.
this is the kiln picasso’s work was fired in !
the town where i am doing my residency in france, vallauris, is a very poor and run down town. it is filled with potters and other artists. the city council is trying to revive this little town and luckily they are huge supporters of the arts. this is a typical street in vallauris. very old and worn, but to me, so hauntingly beautiful.
i finally made it down to the south of france to start my residency, and it’s as if i had never left. the weather here is just perfect. it’s like coming home again . . . i grew up in fresno, california which has mediterranean climate and so it feels subliminally familiar to me. i am ready to get my hands dirty and to see what inspires me. this is where i will be living for the next 5 weeks . . . top floor.
