one of the the main things i love about my new studio is the natural light. during the day, i don’t even turn any lights on in the studio. i love how natural light brings out the vague contrasts + contours in my work. these simple things in life make me excruciatingly happy.
i made this linen curtain to hang at my front door when i’m not feeling social but want the light and air. i can see YOU, but you can’t see ME . . . and i still get a nice breeze and beautiful natural light. i didn’t realize when i made this curtain that it would be so dense from the outside looking in, but the fabric is completely solid from the outside. i honestly didn’t think i could love linen any more than i already did . . . but I DO !
my mom loves to have people over for lunch at our new studio. i love it too, because i usually get the left overs AND i get to hang out with cool artists. today we had lunch with sara paloma and whitney smith (i love throwing myself at whitney’s feet . . . she pretends that she hates dogs, but i know that she secretly LOVES ME).
there were rusty staples in my studio door that had probably been there for 40 years. i had been meaning to pull them out since the day i moved in, but i never had the right tool handy. well, today was the day. i surgically removed each one with an official staple remover. it was the most satisfying thing i did all day.
the sun was shining directly on this collection of oddities and it totally caught my eye . . .
1. a silver wishbone given to me by a good friend.
2. the remains of RUSTY (my last kiln that i just said goodbye to).
3. the perfect pod that i have had with me for so many years.
i am finally unpacking and setting up my new studio + gallery. very. exciting. i’m trying to be mindful of how i set it up and to surround myself with only things that i really need. my word for 2013 is “simplify.” . . . sketchbooks, CHECK. cahalkboard, CHECK. clock, CHECK. dog, CHECK.
i am taking full advantage of my chalkboard paint and now part of my studio is snowing ! i’ve been busy setting up for my big sale THIS weekend. hope to see you there.
i’m slowly prepping my new studio for my big move in. i painted this huge wall in chalkboard paint. i love having a blank slate . . . i am so ready to start filling it up with new ideas and designs . . .
