little golf pencils will always remind me of my dad. he played golf six days a week for as long as i knew him (on the seventh day, he fished). i remember him leaving trails of these little pencil nubs all around the house. such a fond memory.
exactly ONE year ago on this desk in vermont, i began working on my next book, France: inspiration du jour, and today, on same said desk, i am reviewing the FINAL photo galleys. i love this full circle. we also just finalized the book cover which i am SO excited about . . . it took three months and a lot of determination to get it just right. i can’t wait to share it with you. stay tuned . . .
one of the FIVE sketchbook i started here in vermont.
i never thought i could draw “people” very well, so i decided to just dive in and devote an entire sketchbook to drawing wilma. i know there is some controversy over the 10,000 hours rule, but i believe in it. and for me, it works . . . and isn’t that what matters ?
wilma doing what she does best.
i started five different sketchbooks here in vermont.
1. the book of wilma.
2. sketching/writing with my left hand.
3. an everything sketchbook.
4. writing with something i found in nature.
5. flowers + plant life.
i’m going to be one busy girl.

two of my favorite things rolled into one: notebooks + shibori. i found these amazing shibori notebooks at the beautiful shop in tokyo called POSTALCO. we spent a long time there drooling over the goods and i left with many treasures.

i bought these very large sumi brushes at the oedo flea market in tokyo. i’ve been painting with them and can not believe how much INK they hold. painting with them is such a treat.

this bowl was at the SHOJI HAMADA MUSEUM in mashiko. the museum, which is also the former studio + residence of shoji hamamda, is an incredible experience. i highly recommend a visit if you are in tokyo.
