hold it.

i designed this rabbit container as part of a bathroom set, to hold cotton balls (get it ? . . . peter cottontail). BUT i think this  little vessel can be used to hold other things anywhere in the house (sugar cubes, pet treats, candy, tea bags, nuts, nuts + bolts, odds + ends, condoms, etc . . . ).

what would YOU hold in it ?

you can see it HERE.

green with envy.

i was so excited to find these beautiful green rocks on the beaches in provincetown. but i could only see and collect them when the tide was way WAY out (like 100 feet). i had big plans for these green beauties.

but to my dismay, once i washed them and really scrubbed them down, i realized that this bright luminous shade of green was due to algae, from being under water all of the time. what a HUGE difference this made. but once i got over my initial shock, i fell in love with them all over again.

friday field trip (from the sketchbook).

august 15, 2012
plymouth, vermont

we went to the town where calvin coolidge lived called PLYMOUTH. it’s the sweetest and tiniest town you’ll ever see. every summer we go there (it’s 15 minutes from our house) to visit the plymouth cheese factory and to stock up on cheese. this is the second oldest cheesemaking operation in the united states and it was started by calvin coolidge’s father in 1890. you can actually watch them make the cheese right there in the factory. and next door to that is the plymouth general store where i bought this amazing fudge.

friday field trip (from the sketchbook).

june 2012
villefranche, france

there was a beautiful little pond in the jardins de rothschild which was filled with koi. this was one of the most beautiful + stunning gardens i have ever seen. i can’t wait to go back, armed with my sketchbook and a whole lot of time.

so slaw.

one thing i love about being in vermont is the ability to really nest. we sometimes don’t go into town for a week at a time ! and almost all of our meals are home cooked. such a contrast from our real world, where we’re often working so late that there is no choice but to eat dinner out. it’s OH so little house on the prairie here. i love it.

for good measure.

i’ve opened a new online shop where i will be selling a few select items from my manufactured line. i am trying to do less handmade production/custom work and this is the start of shifting things around my plate. the goal is to devote more of my time and energy into one-of-a-kind work (sculptural, multi-media, painting, . . . ). my handmade production line will slowly start to decrease . . . but my manufactured line will live on !

say cheese.

we made it to vermont in time for a little cheese. this is one of my favorite times & places of the year: summer in vermont. we are very lucky to be able to live right on a beautiful lake for the month. vermont is the epitome of getting back to nature and staying far away from city life. i take my shoes off and just breathe in the beauty.

beautiful faces.

i was extremely drawn to this building i saw on a pier in  provincetown. such beautiful weathered faces on the sea. i later found on the internet the story behind it, which made me love it even more . . . “they also faced the sea.”

friday field trip (from the sketchbook).

june 2012
vallauris, france

the fruit in the mediterranean is incredible. that dry hot heat grows such beautiful sweet fruit. i grew up with figs. in fact, it was an enormous fig orchard where our high school would go to “party.” it was simply known as “the figs.” but here in france (and now that i’m a grown up), i prefer my figs on a baguette with strong cheese and a drizzle of honey.

provincetown.

we are in provincetown for a few days before we head to vermont. there are such similarities between provincetown and provence that i now understand why one of my friends, who lives in cannes, comes here for a month every summer. there are beautiful garden paths that connect houses, incredible seafood, beaches galore, AMAZING light, and i could collect sea rock all day (though in the south of france it’s sea glass) and the colours are fantastic.

friday field trip (from the sketch book).

june 2012
antibes, france

i am not a big pastry eater (my sweet tooth is usually reserved for chocolate) BUT i do love to draw pastries. france is packed with pâtisseries that house the most beautiful perfect colourful jewel-like pastries that i have ever seen. i was usually the girl standing outside of the pâtisserie looking in and sketching the merchandise in the window at a rapid speed. i could spend hours doing this. to me, it is much more satisfying than eating them.
