i love new art supplies, though the color of the actual gouache looked pretty much nothing like the color on the tube.

on the french riviera (aka my happy place). stay tuned for my big adventures, or follow me HERE.
today i am leaving california to continue my love affair with the SOUTH OF FRANCE ! i’m doing another residency and am so excited and ready to be far away from my “work” here and to stir up my creative juices. i’m looking forward to making things that I want to make, just for the sake of making. i’m also looking forward to daily farmers markets, swimming in the mediterranean sea, gorging on cheese, rosé season, warm weather, sea glass, and so much more . . .
(if you want a quick synapses of what i’ve been up to, my new newsletter is out.)
i sewed an array of little frocks to wear in the south of france. i leave in TWO days and am so ready to be there. i have had an extremely busy few months. but my BOOK is just about finished. i will be reviewing the final galleys while i’m in france. so exciting. you can follow along on my trip on instagram or facebook.
i bought these wonderful fabrics at a flea market in NICE, FRANCE from a woman who’s family owned a mens tailor shop which was now defunct. she had a beautiful collection of REALLY old fabrics . . . i wish i could have bought more. i love the idea of bringing new life to these fabrics. they will soon be my “uniform dresses” and aprons.

everywhere you turn in the south of france there is a macaron staring you in the face. and the the thing is, you can’t help but stare right back because they are so beautiful. the shape and especially the colors. something about them is so pleasing to the eye. i can draw them all day long.
when i was in france this spring, i posted this photo of my sea glass findings for the day. my friend, jeanine payer, quickly noticed that these were the exact colors of the pantone spring 2013 forecast ! what are the odds of that ? . . . sometimes i feel strangely connected to this world.

i saw some excellent work of BERNARD PAGES at the MUSÉE PICASSO, antibes. i love logs and this was a beautiful wall of logs. i think they were from olive trees.
these are some of the vessels i just made in france. i am crazy in love with this black clay that i can only get there. it has the perfect amount of grog in it and is such a joy to hand build with. i’d go back to france JUST for this clay . . . i love it that much.
yes, i am back in california after the MOST inspiring six weeks in the south of france EVER. i met SO many amazing artists, i saw SO much inspiring ART, i ate TRUCKLOADS of the most delicious food, i swam EVERY DAY in my favorite body of water (the mediterranean sea), i soaked in all the Côte d’Azur a girl could possible absorb. in one word, my journey was
“magical.”
but it does feel good to be back in my own atelier and in my own life . . .
and i will ALWAYS go back to the south of france.
always.
