it was outdoor barbecue night on the beach !
we spent a fabulous sunset having a drink and watching ships cross the miraflores locks. this was a truly amazing sight. i have learned SO much about panama and the panama canal on this trip. much more than i ever learned in school. this is a fascinating country. we also swam and kayaked in the canal. unforgettable.
i had the most wonderful and inspiring new year’s eve ever. we spent the day with the embera tribe, a semi-nomadic indigenous people living in panama far into the rain forest jungle. we spent the day with them eating, dancing, and learning about their way of life, their amazing art, and toured their jungle thick with medicinal plants.
we traveled by a long canoe to get there.
they made us a delcious lunch of fish and plantains served in in a banana leaf bowl.
these are the simple thatched roof huts they live in.
this is an example of some of the beautiful jewelry they make.
they live a life of simplicity, intention, and spend their days making art.
these are my exact goals for 2014.
i haven’t found any sea glass in the caribbean sea, but there is plenty of coral love in the sea. i’m obsessed with the beautiful coral here and am collecting a lot of beauties.
it is VERY gilligan’s island here in bocas del toro. our lodging is right on the beach and directly behind is the rain forest jungle . . . complete with monkeys, sloths, and lots of other creatures. there is nothing better than waking up to the sounds of crashing waves and howling monkeys.
here is our corner bar and the super friendly staff.
they make an mean piña colada.
we are on an amazing island right on the caribbean sea called bocas del toro. WOW. it is super remote, pristine, and ridiculously beautiful. what better way to end the year and clear the head for the new year. i’ve been surfing, snorkeling, running, swimming, reading this great book, relaxing and eating delicious food. it is a pure slice of heaven.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone ! my work for 2013 is finally finished and today we fly to PANAMA for a little (much needed) R and R and SURFING ! thank you everyone for making 2013 such an amazing year.
