while in morocco, we went to a HAMMAM. it was such an incredible experience and i have NEVER felt more clean. the woman who cleaned us slathered black soap on our entire bodies and then, with great vigor, scrubbed us with a charcoal mitt. so painful, so pleasurable. it removes all of the dead skin (yes, she showed us) and leaves you as soft as a baby’s butt. she also washed and comb out my hair (score ! . . . i hate washing my hair). naturally, i bought many tubs of this mysterious black soap to bring home with me. and i can’t wait to go back…
i LOVE japanese boro textiles. i love the way they look, and i really love the sensibility behind it. i bought a huge piece of it at the flea market yesterday. it truly sparks joy.
2012 was a really GOOD year. i’ve been busy working on my FRANCE SKETCHBOOK (chronicle books). i absolutely despise post-it notes, but i am quite fond of these adorable post-it flags. they really spark joy !
it was a BAD CLAY day. but that’s what i get for being an impatient potter. i always want things done fast and i push my clay to the limit . . . two giant porcelain bowls bit the dust.
when. will. i. learn ?!

i’m starting to work on my next book (chronicle books) which will be a sketchbook from my sketchbooks of my trips to france ! i’m sorting through 100’s of sketches to see which ones will make the cut. a very daunting process but i’m so excited about this book ! it’s a dream come true.
this morning i spent painting and drawing with pure INDIGO chunks that i brought back from morocco . . .
then later that day i went to one of my favorite stores, the GARDENER, and saw THIS BOOK!
