i love the mountains when they are covered with snow, but i love them equally when they are not. i spent a bit of time in switzerland years ago and we would go on ski trips, but also to visit the mountains when they were bare and beautiful. chamonix mont-blanc was stunning both ways.

this year we spent christmas in mexico. it felt very odd to be scantily dressed during this season . . . but man, was it nice.

when we moved into the townhouse, there was a big empty wall space that i didn’t have artwork for. i quickly drew this on a large piece of tar paper just to tide me over until i found a proper piece. 5 years later, this “temporary artwork” is still hanging up ! my intention this year is to paint a real painting for this spot. so stay tuned . . .

in 1991 i took a class in repeat patterns. mind you, this was PRE-photoshop when everything was done by hand. i miss those ‘good old days’ where things were TRULY hand made (i painted this entire pattern by hand). i still can NOT wrap my brain around technology. 2 years ago i learned how to use illustrator to design a line of fabrics and clothing for a children’s clothing company. i successfully designed a whole group of fabrics using illustrator and felt proficient at it for one month. a few months later i couldn’t even scan an image in much less make the image do anything. SO. FRUSTRATING. i truly believe that i am missing the entire left side of my brain.

today was my first day of calligraphy class. though i’ve done “regular” calligraphy before, now i’m learning how to do the beautiful fancier calligraphy with a teeny tiny pointed nib. it is incredibly enjoyable to spend a few hours simply writing the alphabet over and over and over. it’s like i’m in first grade again . . . but so much wiser (and wearing nicer shoes).

i bought this beautiful ring in thirassia, greece. i was drawn to the burnt orange color and the simple setting. i always try to buy a small piece of jewelry on my travels. wearing it later seems to bring me back right to the place where it was purchased.

i LOVE chairs. they might just be my favorite subject to sketch. i etched this chair into this plaque in 2000 and it is still hanging on my wall today. i love how the wire gets rusty over the years. i decided to bring this item back into my repertoire. you can see them here and here.
my sketchbook is going back on tour ! it will be traveling with the sketchbook project to pennsylvania, michigan, and ohio. that book is getting more air miles than I AM !
