perfection.

my very sweet and  lovely friend, jeanine payer, gave me this stunningly beautiful necklace to wear at my wedding.  it went with my dress perfectly. everything jeanine does is as close to perfection as one can get. inscribed on this piece is “i believe in everything the heart can stand.” doesn’t that just make you want to cry ? . . . .  one tissue, please.

eggs in one basket.

i made 100 “eggs” in a nest to give as our wedding favors, each with a different word.  my future-husband and i came up with 100 verbs pertaining to a positive relationship.  sounds like a big task, but we actually did it in one sitting.  coincidentally, these eggs-in-a-nest are featured in this months brides of northern california magazine.  (click on the image to see the words up close)

linea carta.

to me, there is nothing more beautiful than interesting handwriting.  diva, of linea carta, has a hand for calligraphy so divine that it makes me drool.  we hired her to write our wedding place cards for our guests.  i think it will be such a treat.  and not only does she do custom lettering, she has a lovely line of cards, tags, and notebooks.  check her out right here.

down under.

every time i go out to retrieve the mail, i secretly hope there is a handwritten envelope or a nice looking package waiting there for me. sadly, this is rarely the case.  but not today, folks . . . . . . toDAY, i was greeted with a very handsome package all the way from australia.  a gift from the amazingly talented kylie johnson.  you see, one of the best perks about the blogging world is that you get to meet (cyber-ly) people from all over the globe.  one of my favorite blog-friend (blend? frog?) is kylie  johnson of paper boat press.  we bonded over the similarities,  yet dissimilarities, in our clay work.

she just had a book of her own poems published called count me the stars.   really beautiful poignant and lovely words.  i highly recommend it.  you’ll want to read the entire book,  cover to cover, in ONE sitting.

but not only is she a published poet, she is an AMAZING clay artist.  this quote tag feels like butter in the hand.  i just want to take a BITE out of it.
thank you, kylie, for the wonderful and sweet surprise.

important deadline.

my last big deadline was today. and now i am trying to stay OUT of my studio in order to plan my wedding, which is in . . . (gasp) . . .  3 weeks.  luckily, i work best under pressure and with very strict deadlines . . .  sort of like my good friend josie.
we are actually getting married at city hall on the very auspicious day of 08/08/08, and then having a reception 2 days later on august 10th.  what started out as thoughts of a very simple dinner for 20 close friends + family, has somehow turned into more of a large dinner party for 100.  it doesn’t help that my family tree is more like a family forest.  plus i think that people have been waiting a very long  time for this event,  and wouldn’t dare miss it.
so, please bear with me for the next couple of weeks . . . if i owe you something or you order something or you need something from me,  i promise that you will eventually get it.
thanks.

the show down.

another acga show over and done and now down.  it was a perfect weekend with perfect weather and a LOT of people.  it was great to meet some of my etsy customers in person, after knowing them only via the internet for SO long.  i will be posting much of my show work on my etsy store this week, so stay tuned.

more new stem ware . . .

i have always loved brown + pink together.  it reminds me of neapolitan ice cream (which was my dad’s favorite flavor).  i’m off to set up my show in palo alto.  the good news, is that we always get a hotel room and spend the whole weekend down there and see it as a mini vacation . . . there is even a swimming pool and putting green at the hotel.  a little work, a  little swimming,  a  little room service . . . who can complain about THAT ?!

a really big show.

here is some new work i made for the big palo alto clay + glass show which is NEXT WEEKEND (click on the image for a closer peek). i’ve been in the studio working day and night making a lot of new work and also some old standards.  i think it is going to be a great show with 150 amazing artists and fun in the sun.  for more information, click here,  and if you do come out, be sure to stop by for a visit.

so hot.

jw and i went to a wedding in los angeles this weekend where the temperature was in the HUNDREDS.  it was really quite unbearable (unless, of course, you were bare . . . which only a few of us were allowed to be).   unfortunately, i was wearing a light wool dress, because we didn’t read the fine print to know that it was an outdoors event, nor were we really expecting it to be 105 degrees.

the wedding was held in the backyard of a house (more like a ranch-farm-mansion) right in the middle of studio city.  it was a beautiful hidden paradise and there was even a barn and  livestock, my virtual dream house.
luckily, there was a swimming pool, and though i was so very tempted to dive in, wading in up to my thighs was sheer heaven.

a sneak peek.

here is a sneak peek at a new series of work i am making for the palo alto clay + glass show in july. (click on the image for a closer look)

and since it will be summer then, i thought it would be a good idea to add some COLOUR  to my work.  it’s high time  to finally break out of my all-white-mold and splash on some colour . . . well . . . maybe just a hint.
