the pear.

this is a newly documented old teapot of mine. i have always had a “thing” for pears. i refer to them often in my work. i love their shapes and their colors. and though i love pear flavor, i can only eat a very firm but juicy pear, which means the window of opportunity of pear consuming for me is very small. i’ll buy what i think is the perfect pear at the market, and by the time i get it home, it is too mushy for me to eat. but i do enjoy fake pear flavoring . . . and an asian pear is almost always perfect.

i will be showing at the ACGA festival THIS weekend in palo alto and i have a LOT of new work. it’s a great show with 180 talented clay + glass artists. if you live in the area, you should really experience this festival. it’s outside in sunny palo alto and there is food, music, and parking galore.

do we ?

this is a little twist on the “I DO” ring bearer dish. though i am a true believer in tradition, sometimes i enjoy a fresh spin on things. after all, it is the 2000s.

clay.

i l o v e clay in the greenware state . . . when it is still called “clay.” after it is fired, is when it turns into “pottery.” i just realized that this must be why i have always (subliminally?) called myself a “clay artist” rather than a “potter.” and as all of my potter friends will attest to, i don’t even really like pottery. i know, strange, but true. all of my pottery posse are true potter’s potters and really into pottery and the whole pottery scene. but as usual, i am a bit of an outcast. i’ve always been the black sheep. which must be why i love sheep so much . . . but that is a whole other story.

kick it.

whitney smith + her hunky husband gave me this BEAUTIFUL old kick wheel (andrew found it on the STREET !) . . . it is truly an exquisite piece of furniture. i never really “took” to the wheel. while everyone in class was fighting for the good wheels and eagerly learning to center, i was always off in the corner, secretly hand building by myself (though i do LOVE to coil build tall vessels ON a wheel). but now that i HAVE this wheel, there is incentive to throw (you can see the tiny bowl on it that i just threw, you can also see wilma’s butt). who knows? a year from now i might have a whole new line of work. stay tuned.

i drove down to fresno to visit my mom this weekend, and i spotted a field of sheep (i have a deep love for sheep). i had to pull over to see the cutest lambs EVER. and they had the sweetest little voices . . . “bbaaahhhh . . . bah ahhhh ahhhhhhh”

they took one look at me and they started to walk AWAY . . .

then suddenly they all RAN away as fast as they could.
