do you remember when i started fake-indigo dyeing my clothes ? well yesterday i took a REAL indigo dye class. this has changed my life. it is so magical and real and organic. here is a vat of indigo dye. it smells like that ammonia scent some really stinky cheese has.
and here is one of my linens that i dyed. so satisfying. i’m hooked.
today i went to a hand lettering workshop. i’ve always loved the art of hand lettering.
i have always loved indigo blue (the really dark shade) but have never attempted it because it seems so complicated and you need the right space and tools. but on a whim, i decided to use fabric dye on some of my clothes that had stains or were colors that i didn’t like anymore. SO SATISFYING ! and i love how each piece is a different shade of indigo depending on what color it was to start with. i suddenly have a new wardrobe.
i’m filling my brick + mortar shop with items that i adore. i just got in these new SOY CANDLES. they are filling my studio/shop with the most AMAZING scent.
i bought this old ROYAL typewriter 23 years ago at the marin flea market for $15. i used it for the next 15 years until some of the keys started sticking and the ribbon was completely dead and off track. FINALLY last week i had it tuned up and now it works like new again (they had my same exact typewriter on sale there for $500). this is the same kind of typewriter that ERNEST HEMINGWAY used . . . how is THAT for inspiration ?!

i went to the RICHARD DIEBENKORN exhibit at the de young museum and was completely entranced. i love his work. if you live even remotely near the bay area, i suggest you go. it was completely enchanting.
i can’t believe wilma turned EIGHT today. it seems like just yesterday when i was picking her out of the litter of 9 baby jack russells. i was hoping for a brown + white rough coat puppy (like the frasier dog) . . . but when i saw this black + white smooth haired loner sitting off to the side by herself, while her siblings were in a pile playing with each other, i knew she was the one for me. it was the best decision i ever made. another testimony of how what you THINK you want is not always what you REALLY want or need. one of the many life lessons that she has taught me.

i’m passionately intrigued with hanging laundry from other countries. i find it to be beautiful, very telling, and natural works of art. i always photograph a series of hanging laundry wherever i am (probably much to the chagrin of whoever’s laundry it is !).
